We've all heard the phrase "providing our children a better tomorrow today" or some variation of it in our lives. But how does one actually do that? Every day we turn on the TV. or open a newspaper and are inundated with images and stories about the murders, robberies, and wrong-doings of the world. Every news channel, and every newspaper becomes just like all the others, reporting the same stories to the public. How do we escape this? Well the answer my friends, is that we don't escape it. Instead we should endeavor to change it! In New York City in 1979, Curtis Sliwa formed an nonprofit, volunteer based organization called The Alliance of Guardian Angels, to combat crime and violence on the New York City subway. Today the Guardian Angels has chapters in 13 nations, in over 100 cities worldwide, and its members protect more than just the subway, they protect our streets, neighborhoods and each other. These chapters are made up of unarmed civilians from many different walks of life, all with one goal: To provide a better, safer environment, so that our children may have a brighter future.
